Great Post!

There are still some apparel companies in the U.S., such as our nation's largest -- American Apparel. There are also other companies that acknowledge their impact on the lives of the people that make their products and are working hard to operate fairly in the global economy. Sure, there are plenty of others that don't, but I think we need to be careful not to label all clothing companies monster's of globalization.

I spent the better part of the past year visiting with and writing about garment workers around the world. They sacrifice a lot to have these jobs. Jobs that they hope will improve their lives. Still, they could be paid and treated better, but there is a complex chain of relationships that dictate who gets what and they have the least power of anyone in the chain.

Globalization is good and bad. Globalization is both hope and despair.

Indeed this was one of the most eloquent and honest speeches of not only race in this country, but current state of affairs in all categories. This speech only make me hope more that he will be out next president and hope the country will finally go forward from the backwards we've been going for the last 8 years.

Yes, the book you mentioned, A New Earth is a must read! I believe that as a woman also of African descent, I know that it is possible and probable that a person of color could become the president of these United States. We have enough data on caucasian men who continue to dominate this country in the arena of politics, positions and governmental status that we as citizens directly pay for their salaries and perks...yet our lack of diversity is apparent each and everyday. It is amazing how many prefer to reduce Senator Obama's ability to manage funds, co-write wonderful speeches and transform (to just great speeches...) how insulting...yet our thoughts can remove any limitations we ever placed on ourselves...He is inspiring, intelligent and gifted...whenever we are away from sports, entertainment and the like, it is apparent that we have in reality few limitations if any...the only thing stopping us is usually ourselves.

Stay strong!!

He is certainly a candidate that I would like to see more in the center of our politics. I hope someone will give him a cabinet position if he is not elected. As you can see, I still have not decided who I will be supporting. I am savoring the idea that I have real choices this time around.

Sorry Hot Potato missed your comment because you were sent to spam. I personally think Dennis is our most progressive candidate and has a lot of great ideas. He just comes across a little too idealistic at times for me. He does bring up a host of issues that many of the other candidates never address. He would definitely shift the paradigm in this country.

There is a method to my madness here. I made an attempt at taking a realistic though somewhat pragmatic approach. If employers are in need of temporary or immigrant workers, we should have a temporary work program and the employer should report this. If something should happen to the employee while they are working, the employer should be responsible. If they would like to keep the employee as a permanent worker, then they should supply the employee with the necessary information needed to obtain that, I don't believe the employers should not have to treat these people as they would every other worker in this country. That is the problem.

You kind of contradict yourself here. Where would we all be without the document workers? Implying that we need them, but yet you want to punish the employers that hire them?

melissafrei! Your candidate is Dennnis Kucinich, you just don't seem to realize it yet but I do hope you will!

You wrote <blockquote cite="http://melissafrei.wordpress.com/2007/11/26/the-presidential-candidatesa-real-opportunity/#comment-21">

* Possessing a strategic economic domestic vision is also extremely important to me. By this, I do not mean more of the same stances of globalization, importing goods and exporting jobs. I would like to see a well managed trade policy and a refocus of education in this country. We need someone who will not put the interest of multinational corporations and profits before the people of this country.

    * Next, I would want someone who is GREEN thinking. How can we become a leader in the world on environmental practices and innovation? We should be first in producing new forms of energy and transportation.

    * Finally, I want someone who is serious about Universal Healthcare.</BLOCKQUOTE>

    * Kucinich is the ONLY candidate who will take matters of life and death out of the hands of the insurance companies. He's the ONLY one who supports universal NOT-FOR-PROFIT healthcare - HR 676.

    * Kucinich is THE GREEN CANDIDATE. He will create a Works Green Administration, creating millions of green jobs while restoring our environment and securing the US's energy independence. He supports organic farmers and the labeling of GMO's in food. He is not bought out by corporate interests that profit from pollution. He will end nuclear power, which is one of the most dangerous pollutants to the environment out there. Instead, he will invest in renewable energies and relocalize economies.

    * It is Kucinich who "will not put the interest of multinational corporations and profits before the people of this country." He is the ONLY candidate who will cancel NAFTA & the WTO, bringing jobs back to the US and ensuring safety standards, workers right, and environmental quality principles in all trading.

<b>Kucinich needs your help on December 15, 2007. Please check it out at <a href="http://www.december152007.com/" rel="nofollow">http://www.december152007.com</a>.</b>

Thanks and peace. KUCINICH IS PRESIDENT! If you want it.
